Canon and Nikon cameras, lenses, are set to rise in Australia tomorrow. This is in no small part due to the closure of their respective production facilities in Japan. Nikon’s factory is in Sendai, within 50kms of the Fukushima plant. With the plants closed, we may see it becoming difficult to get stock in the months ahead.

For my part, I have had a Canon 5D2 in for repair for the past 4 weeks, and was last week quoted that it could take up to 4 weeks for the parts to come from Japan. I am wondering whether it could take even longer…!

I photographed some fabulous new works by sculptor Genevieve McLean this week.

It can be tricky to shoot Genevieve’s work, as it is specular, dynamic, and highly textured. To compound this, she is also now placing most of her works in acrylic display boxes, which are highly reflective. Normally, I could cross polarize works in display cases, but I elected not to, as you lose a lot of texture with this approach, and texture is paramount with her work.

The work below is not a display case example, but I particularly like this one.

Kreisler Studio is an affordable hire studio for photography and film productions in central Brunswick, Melbourne.

With off street parking, and roller door access, it is easy to bring equipment in and out of the building. If you wish to rent gear, we have both strobes and constant lighting sources available. Lighting stands and auto poles for backgrounds are bundled with studio rental at no extra charge. There is a hair/makeup area, and a change room, too.

The dimensions of the space are: 6.5m (Wide) x 13.5m (Long) x 4m (High). This represents a long shooting area for full length shots, with plenty of separation from the background. Lights can be spread wide, as well, since the width stretches up to 8 metres.

Prices are $200 for a half day (4 hours), and $325 for a full day (8 hours). Overtime is charged at $50 per hour. Payment is due on the day of hire.

To inquire, call Nick on 0413 181204, or email nick@kreisler.com.au
