Canon and Nikon cameras, lenses, are set to rise in Australia tomorrow. This is in no small part due to the closure of their respective production facilities in Japan. Nikon’s factory is in Sendai, within 50kms of the Fukushima plant. With the plants closed, we may see it becoming difficult to get stock in the months ahead.
For my part, I have had a Canon 5D2 in for repair for the past 4 weeks, and was last week quoted that it could take up to 4 weeks for the parts to come from Japan. I am wondering whether it could take even longer…!

I photographed some fabulous new works by sculptor Genevieve McLean this week.
It can be tricky to shoot Genevieve’s work, as it is specular, dynamic, and highly textured. To compound this, she is also now placing most of her works in acrylic display boxes, which are highly reflective. Normally, I could cross polarize works in display cases, but I elected not to, as you lose a lot of texture with this approach, and texture is paramount with her work.
The work below is not a display case example, but I particularly like this one.

The videos featured are interviews with Ben Sheppard and Andrew Keall, two Melbourne artists. As with many other photographers, I have been exploring the possibilities of DSLR as a video tool. In collaboration with Colby Welsh (Ben interview) and Darcy Gladwin (Andrew interview) I recently produced these two clips, for ARTWORLD.tv. Check ‘em out:
