I shot some of Ben’s sculptures a couple of weeks back, and you can view the results:

Below is a shot from the session, of a fabulous work ‘Brennie’. Anne-Marie has done a great retouching job on this one, cleaning up the whites and creating the shadow.

Band Photography – Cocophonics

Tuesday, August 24th, 2010

I had a fabulous shoot with Melbourne rockers the Cocophonics on the weekend. I had discussed the concept for the photography extensively with Tony Stevens the band’s drummer and manager, and we really agreed on the aesthetics for the day.

Tony had loaned me a couple of books of historic photos of Sydney underworld figures, published a few years back by the Sydney Police and Crime Museum, at Circular Quay. A lot of the portraits in the books of criminals were done at the turn of last century on large format cameras with glass plate negatives, giving them a wonderful clarity and bokeh, combining with the ‘distressed’ patina of the glass plates. Having printed and scanned many glass plate negs when I worked at the State Library of NSW, emulating this ‘look’ excited me immensely.

Here a couple of the shots, of Tony and singer Mark Lyons.
